Roaring Camp Railroads near San Francisco

No. 1 at Roaring Camp Railroad. Built in 1912,...

Take a day trip to the past when you visit the fascinating frontier theme town near San Francisco in the Santa Cruz Mountains called Roaring Camp. Hop aboard the Roaring Camp Railroad pulled by an authentic steam-powered locomotive and ride into the majestic redwood forests or along the beautiful California coastlines. Even though you may feel like you stepped back into the days of yesteryear, you’ll find the cleverly recreated pioneer village doesn’t skimp on modern comforts and their professional staff has fun with the Wild West charade while assuring their guests are safe and happy.

With a host of fascinating shops, restaurants and exhibits set on beautifully manicured grounds with picnic tables and ponds, Roaring Camp is a wonderful place to bring your sweetheart for a date, the family for a reunion or the office for a party. In fact, the setting is so romantic that many couples choose to have their wedding at Roaring Camp! Schools, church groups and senior tours enjoy special rates for popular programs like the Eco Outdoor Adventure Programs where trained guides share their knowledge of the wild on nature hikes into the surrounding forests.

Visitors also delight in the seasonal Roaring Camp Railroad excursions like the Halloween Ghost Train, the Santa Cruz Holiday Lights Train and the summertime Santa Cruz Starlight Evening Train with dinner. On the Roaring Camp grounds are celebrations like the 4th of July fireworks display, the Summer Gathering of Mountain Men and the yearly Musical Saw Festival.

Entrance to the grounds is free and you can purchase Roaring Camp Railroad tickets in advance or onsite. Pets are allowed with certain restrictions and hotel lodgings and camping facilities are nearby. The Roaring Camp grounds are open from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM daily except for extended hours during holiday events.
