In the days of stage coaches, Mountain View was little more than a stop along the route from San Francisco to San Jose, the state capital. The rich soil and temperate climate was perfect for agricultural purposes. By the late 1800’s the landscape was covered with flourishing vineyards and orchards and the town of Mountain View was booming.
With rapid advances in technological development the surrounding areas became overrun with high-tech companies. However Mountain View remained an agricultural center. It wasn’t until the 1960’s that Mountain View began moving towards its modern-day identity, a technological hub in the middle of Silicon Valley. Today Mountain View serves as the headquarters for a number of Fortune 1000 companies including Intuit, Google and Symantec.
Popular Features of Mountain View
Named for the gorgeous view of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mountain View is the perfect place to see the leaves change, as fall tends to lag into December. The city has a Mediterranean climate; not overly hot in the summer with temperatures hovering in the low 80’s, and chilly but not cold in the winter. While there’s some shower activity occurring during the so called wet season, overall it doesn’t actually rain often.
A revitalized, pedestrian friendly downtown is filled with shops, restaurants and brew pubs, as well as a large park and a plaza popular for holding community events. The Mountain Vies Center for the Performing Arts is home to several highly regarded theater companies. There are a number of trails and bicycle paths for outdoors enthusiasts, one of which runs along the entire length of Stephens Creek.
Every year people come from miles around to attend the Mountain View Arts and Wine Festival and locals, tourists and residents of nearby towns flock each Summer Sunday to the large Farmer’s Market.

California Great American Theme Park offers something for the whole family. If it’s thrill rides you love, try the Flight Deck, a suspended “jet” coaster which will take you through a complete vertical loop, and two 270 degree inversions, a full wingover and zero gravity roll which will make you feel weightless or step onto the Demon to experience multiple loops and enormous drops. Family and children’s rides are also available. When you’re worn out from the thrills enjoy some entertainment or head over to Boomerang Bay, a fabulous water park with water slides of varying degrees of thrill elements, enjoy a cool dip in one of the lagoons for all ages or just lay back and relax at Cabana Village. California Great America will satisfy every amusement park appetite.
You can also choose to tour the Winchester Mystery House home of Sarah Winchester, widow of the inventor of the Winchester rifle. After the loss of her infant daughter and husband, bereft and alone, she consulted with a medium who informed her that her child and husband had been killed by spirits inhabiting her home, suggesting she’d be their next victim.
The only way to avoid this fate, she was informed, was to move across the country and build a house insuring construction never ceased. She built her house in California, hiring round the clock work crews and construction continued until her death 38 years later. The 160 room mansion includes elements without explanations such as upside down columns, a staircase that goes down 7 steps then up 11, doors that open onto walls and windows built into the floor, all allegedly designed by spirits and communicated to Mrs. Winchester for inclusion in the house.
These inexpensive packages include a Deluxe Room for one night, Deluxe Continental Breakfast for Two, and Two “Good-any-Day” Admission Tickets to either Six Flags or the Winchester Mystery House. This one of a kind hotel in Mountain View will ensure you experience the perfect vacation with these not to be missed special packages. Visitors are encouraged to call the Camino Inn and Suites for further information.
The Camino Inn and Suites would love to take this opportunity to invite all guests to an industry extravaganza. The California Health Information Association is using the incredible public arenas at the Santa Clara Convention Center to house its Annual convention and Exhibition.

One of our favorite places at the Camino Inn and Suites is the David Bruce Winery. We recommend this winery to all our guests and the general public. The winery opened in 1964 and consists of sixteen acres of land. They also produce 60,000 cases of wine per year. Bruce Winery offers a variety of different wines to suite everybodys taste. Their featured wine is their “2000 Commemorative Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains Estate Bottled”. There were only 70 bottles of this particular wine produced. This wine was created to honor Dr. David Bruce’s 70th birthday. Also for any type of wine you could think of, there is a featured wine. For example a few more featured wines are the “2000 Santa Cruz Mountains”, the “2000 Santa Clara Valley”, the “2000 Central Coast”, and many more.
They also offer wine tasting in the “tasting room”. This room is open thursday through sunday, 11 am to 5 pm.
